Single layer ombre linocut print

Size: 10" x 12"

This is a linocut print that is strongly influenced by my childhood.

I grew up in a neighborhood that was full of different kinds of trees. From my room in my childhood home, everyday I saw this tree and the several different birds that nested in it and flew amidst its branches.

The first time I saw linocut illustrations was in Shahaj Path, a Bengali book for little children written to teach kids the Bengali alphabet. It was illustrated with linocut prints by Nandalal Bose, a famous Bengali artist and printmaker. I, too, learnt to write my mother tongue from Shahaj Path and Nandalal Bose's illustrations.

So when I illustrated this childhood memory of my favorite tree, I took inspiration from Bose's linocuts. This print is a mix of my own style coupled with motifs and techniques influenced by Bose.
